Yellow

The feeling of the sun’s rays dancing over your eyelashes and warming your face; it is the color of warmth. It is the color of your mother’s heartbeat when she pulls you into her chest, and the silent clashing of two people’s souls. It is the the color of your lover whispering your name in your ear, and the electricity running through your veins. The passing of highway lights, and the chirping of birds; it is the color of happiness. It is the color of his voice uttering “I adore you”, and leaving trails of kisses along your jawline and neck. It is the color that fills your chest when you listen to your favorite song, and the one that pours into the empty parts of you when poetry touches you where you thought it never could. It is the color of rain cleansing every inch of your body, and the color of thunder. It is the color of his fingertips brushing the hair off of your cheek, and the safety in his arms. It is everything safe and warm. It is the color of watching someone light up with passion, the color of every inch of success. It is the color of the voice under your thoughts screaming at you to write. It is the color of soft hands comforting, of warm eyes smiling. It is the color of dimples, the color of braided hair, of the gentle sway of wind in the trees. It is slow dancing to Frank Sinatra, it is the watching sun rays play on the kitchen floor.

It is the color of “I dos”, of children’s laughter, and of the pitter-patter of a dog’s feet clicking on a hardwood floor. It is the color of violins, of orchestras, and symphonies. It is the color of unexpected happy moments, of tea in the afternoon. It is hair warmed by the sun, of tired giggles, and long, safe hugs. It is everything light, safe, warm and bright. It is the color of late mornings, of a newborn child. The color of the summer, of a grandmothers’ soft, worn hand over your own when she tells you she loves you. It is the color of stories, of heritage, and promise. It is the color of soft stringed lights draped through a white curtain, and the color of a gentle kiss placed on your eyelids. It is the color of contentment. Of the inexhaustible promise of hope. It is everything that you are, and all that you will be.
